The mandarin duck has a strong flying ability and a very clever personality. It is very good at slack and inhabits mixed forests of conifers and broad-leaved plants and surrounding streams and swamps.

Without the interference of human activities, mandarin ducks have strong survivability in the wild, have fewer natural enemies, and are alert, so they have strong reproductive ability.

Mandarin ducks like water, and they never visit places lacking water. Every day, the mandarin ducks swim and play in the deep pool for a while. They swim and chase happily in swarms of groundwater.

When they get tired of playing, they swim slowly to the rocks or the beach by the stream and come ashore to rest. At this time, you will see the mandarin ducks in pairs, lying prone side by side, looking very intimate. At this time they are intoxicated in the state of happiness, quietly letting time pass. If there are ignorant companions to disturb them at this time, they will definitely be beaten.

Mandarin ducks form small families to live together during the winter season. When sleeping at night, the weather-beaten old mandarin duck serves as the guard. It stands on guard on a high rocky spot. Once it finds the enemy, it immediately "quacks". When the companions heard the alarm, they all rose into the air, lined up, and fled towards the valley.

Mandarin ducks are omnivorous animals, their food includes plant roots, stems, leaves, seeds, as well as various insects and larvae such as mosquitoes, stone flies, liches, locusts, beetles, as well as small fish, frogs, crayfish, shrimp, Snails, spiders and other animals. The types of food often vary with seasons and habitats. Animal food is the main food in the breeding season, and almost all the food in winter is the nuts of oak trees and other plants.

Finding food is not easy. Mandarin ducks fly into forests or rice fields every afternoon in search of food. If grains, fish and shrimp cannot fill the stomach, eat grass roots. After a busy afternoon, I dragged my tired body to hide in the dark woods and spent a deserted night.

Now, due to water pollution, many places where mandarin ducks play has been destroyed, so we must pay attention to protecting water quality and protecting mandarin ducks' homes.
