Alpacas are docile, intelligent and humane, suitable for captivity and are one of the most important animals in South America. Alpaca wool is longer than wool, is shiny and stretchy, and can be made into a high-quality wool fabric.

There are about 3 million animals in the world, of which more than 90% live on the high plateaus of Peru and Chile in South America, and the rest are distributed in Victoria and New South Wales, Australia.

Alpaca weight.

The alpaca weighs 55-65 kg, has a head and body length of 1.2-2.25 meters, a tail length of 0.15-0.25 meters, and a shoulder height of 0.9-1.3 meters. Has a slender body and neck. The head is small and the ears are large and pointed.

Its habits.

Habitat.

Alpacas are native to the Andes Mountains in central Peru, between 3,000 and 6,500 meters above sea level in the upper Amazon River.

The climate here is harsh, with nighttime temperatures below 0°C and daytime temperatures below 16°C. The annual precipitation is 400-700 mm.

The particularly harsh natural environment and wild conditions with nowhere to hide have cultivated alpaca's strong adaptability and resistance to roughage.

Temperament.

Alpacas are docile and timid.

Do you know why alpacas spit?

Alpaca spitting is an act of self-defense due to being startled or threatened. When you see an alpaca flapping its back ear so that it bites off its tongue, it's a sign that it's "producing" saliva and is ready to attack.

Life.

Alpacas live mainly in groups. They are on high alert. When grazing, they always send one or more guards.

They can also predict changes in the weather. Every time a storm comes, the "guard" in the team will bring the whole team to a safe place.

Precautions for feeding alpacas.

Alpaca hair is generally only cut once a year, and the alpaca wool should not be stained when shearing. This is to prevent disease.

In the summer high temperature season, a small pool with a water depth of about 20cm can be appropriately prepared for the alpacas to cool down.

Deworming regularly, once a year in spring and autumn and winter.

Establish a strict disinfection system, regularly disinfect the fences and water tanks, and isolate and treat sick sheep immediately. Clean up excrement promptly.

Alpaca wool has good heat retention and abrasion resistance, so alpaca wool has the highest economic value.
