The prototype of modern Kukenhoff Park was designed by German landscape horticulturist Zuohut and his son in 1840. The overall landscape design of the park is mainly in the English style: tall trees, winding paths, green lawns, and secluded pools, and some of the trees planted at that time are still growing in the park today.

Now, these old trees have been carefully maintained by the managers. Every five years, a small plane flies over the park to take infrared photos to check whether all the trees are healthy.

"Kukenhoff" means "kitchen garden". In 1949, a group of bulb growers wanted to build an open space flower show space, so Kukenhoff was planned as a flower display area for tourists to visit so that they could develop the bulb flower industry for a long time.

At first, only 40 companies participated in the event, but now it has grown to hundreds. Now every year from the end of September to the beginning of the frost, flower suppliers will select their latest and best bulb varieties and plant them according to the location and pattern planned in Keukenhof Park.

The following spring, in the 32-hectare park, more than 6 million flowers bloomed together, including tulips, hyacinths, daffodils and lilies, including more than 1000 varieties of tulips alone. Colourful flowers decorate Keukenhof into a sea of flowers.

The charming and magnificent scene is difficult to describe in words, and being in it can not help but intoxicate people, so it enjoys the laudatory name of "the most beautiful spring garden in Europe".

In the first year of its official opening, Keukenhof Park attracted more than 230000 visitors; in the past few years, the annual number of visitors has been between 800000 and 900000 and is increasing rapidly.

Among the many visitors, there are many VIP figures, such as Dutch royals, former US President Dwight Eisenhower, British Queen Elizabeth and former US First Lady Hillary Clinton. All who have visited here agree that Kukenhoff Park is one of the most memorable places in the world to be photographed.

Kukenhoff and other typical Dutch small towns (such as ZaanseSchans, Volendam or Delf t) have many guided tours. Such a guided tour is an excellent choice to enjoy many scenic spots in a day in a limited time.

Kukenhoff's entertainment options also include bicycle guides, electric car tours and even occasional helicopter flights.
