Zanda Earth Forest - The Largest Tertiary Strata Earth Forest in the World

Dear Lykkers, zanda Earth Forest is located along the Langqen Zangbo River in Zanda County, Ngari. Spanning an impressive 2,464 square kilometers, it is recognized as the most extensive and typical tertiary strata earth forest globally. In 2007, it was designated as a National Geological Park.

Natural Beauty and Unique Landscape

The earth forests of Zanda County stretch across hundreds of square kilometers, forming an extraordinary backdrop against the plateau. The landscape evokes comparisons to the Grand Canyon of Colorado in the United States.

Geological Formation

Geologically termed as “Level Terrane Physiognomy,” the earth forest was shaped by Himalayan tectonic activity, water erosion, and ancient sediment deposition. The deep valleys, some with canals reaching depths of 100 to 200 meters, are a testament to nature's artistry.

Diverse Shapes and Structures

The earth forest features formations resembling castles, watchtowers, pagodas, and warriors guarding mountain tops. Some even appear as galloping horses. From different perspectives, the scenery shifts, offering a kaleidoscope of magnificent views. Exploring the earth forest feels akin to wandering through the ruins of an ancient kingdom, both desolate and majestic.
